An H-1B status employee with a pending application for a new employer may commence employment for the new employer upon presentation of a receipt for the filed H-1B application. Section 1 of the I-9 Form must be completed by the employee no later than the day the employee begins employment. All schools, units, and departments are prohibited from knowingly using independent contractors, staffing agencies, and recruitment firms that use undocumented workers. Within three business days of your start date, please bring the required documents to one of our I-9 verification centersto complete Section 2 of the I-9 in person. The electronic Form I-9 will direct the employee to complete the Section 1 of the I-9, except they will be brought through the scheduling tool to set their Section 2 completion appointment in accordance with federal law requirements. 3.3 The hiring department, college/division, or university authorized user of the electronic I-9 system, or other authorized user within Human Resources , completes Section 2 of the I-9 form within three business days after the individual’s start date. The university representative must see original employment and identity documents which must appear to be genuine and relate to the person presenting them. An employment offer cannot be rescinded based on the expiration date of the work authorization presented at the time of document review.
